The Bathroom
We did a lot of work in here! We {or I should say J} replaced the flooring, added bead-board to the walls, installed a new vanity, subway tiled the shower, and obviously painted. I love the difference in here. The tiling of the floor and shower simply make me smile:) One of the best surprises in our house was in the bathroom. The wall to the right when you walk in seemed like a waste of space to us, so we wanted to tear the wall down and build shelving. When we got the initial layers of the wall down we found a GREAT surprise! There was already a huge pantry style cabinet in there! It was seriously dirty but in amazing condition! Why anyone would ever cover over extra storage space in a bathroom is beyond me, but it worked out great for us.

Oh the joys of painting!
I'll explain the glue on the wall later

The floors and trim
The glue on the wall was from previous bead-board we had put up. Initially we thought we were just going to paint and put up bead-board, no other renovations, because we simply didn't have time. We put up pre-cut 4x4 squares, and the seam line was horrible. We thought we were having a housewarming that week, so we just left it. Instead, I got super sick and had to cancel the party the day of {big bummer} but that meant that we had more time to fix it! Hooray! We tore down the 4x4 squares and instead used 4x8, which lead to no more seam showing! All in all the bathroom really only took about two weekends to finish. Even though the main projects are done in the bathroom, the room still bothers me for a couple of reasons. When we got married we got these beautiful brown towels and bath mats, they are great quality, but now our bathroom is black and white..thats an issue! Also, it has been near impossible to find a shower curtain we both love, so for the time being, shower liner it is. All in all though, I love the new look.
What do you think? Are you as much of a lover of subway tiles as we are? Any fun renovations going on in your home lately?

ReplyDeleteYou are VERY talented my dear friend. If I ever get a house... I just might call you up ;)
ReplyDeleteLove your choice on floor tile, I recently remodeled my bathroom and used the same stuff!
ReplyDeletewe are working on our bathroom i have a ?........in the shower did you run the subway up to where your tiles were and if so then what did you put from subway to ceiling?
ReplyDeleteLove the floor tile!
ReplyDeleteDid you put the mirror up over the beadboard? or cut into the board to install it flush to the wall?
Turned out great!
I saw your post on Remodelaholic... You did such a great job! I have a question for you..We did the high bead board in our bathroom too...and I cannot figure out how to put a mirror over it now. How did you hang that cute mirror up with the Chair rail molding in the way?

Lacey - Since we installed the upper chair rail, we just cut the trim so there was a cut out for the mirror.
ReplyDeleteKarrie - The beadboard is only 1/4" thick so we just have the mirror over the beadboard. If it was thicker we would have had to think of something else.
ChRiS - We ran the tiles up to the same point that the old tiles were, so we didnt have to do anything above that point. <3 Adri
I LOVE that flooring. We had a 1940s home and that would totally look great in our house! Where did you find it?
ReplyDeleteWe are in the middle of adding a bathroom to our house and are almost ready to do the interiors... I am looking for a vanity, I like the vanity you have, where did you find that? I am also looking into finding a great dresser and converting it into a vanity - any advice? Basically I don't want a "Home Depot" looking vanity, but something that will fit our 1929 home better... and I love your renovations so I figured you might be able to help??
ReplyDeleteI saw your post over at Remodelaholic and am wondering is the grout on your tile (floor and tub) gray?
ReplyDeleteI'm totally inspired by your bathroom. I picked hexagon floor tiles, subway shower tiles and beadboard for our bathroom remodel and this just solidified my decision. I'm wondering about the grout, too.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the great feedback everyone!
ReplyDeleteBecky-we got the flooring at Home Depot
Cassie- we got the vanity from Costco. Normally we would have done something DIY-but we were on a serious time limit-and this vanity was beautiful and looked distressed as well:) for other vanitys we love using a dresser and then adding the sink to the top. We definitely would have done it this way if we had more time. Hope that helps
The grout is the smallest grain grey grout from
home depot

Hey Adri,
ReplyDeleteHow hard was the floor install in the bathroom? I am thinking of doing this in my bathroom...the tile?!
Thanks love,
Mari
You did great work and it looks nice. I just think it's funny how you younger folks tear down all of the 80's stuff that probably cost pretty much to put in, and put things back to the way they were originally when the house was built, that the owners before you, didn't like. Now you spent all of that to put the old looking stuff in and when you sell it the new kids will tear that out and put it back to what you tore out, etc. That's just the way things are. Isn't it funny how we are like that. So much waste, but your work is beautiful and well done. I like all of your attention to detail and trim work.
